Join us in the studio as we build found object sculptures and explore the shadows they create! Found objects such as bottles, paintbrushes, mugs, chairs and infinitely more options will be available for arrangement and rearrangement throughout this open studio. Using studio spotlights, we will cast shadows which can be traced onto individual sheets of paper or onto the studio’s collaborative shadow mural. What will your imagination create from the cast shadows?

This project is inspired by a new sculpture currently on view at Grounds For Sculpture in the entrance to The Meadow: Mac Adams’ piece, East West Buddha. This unique abstract piece casts the shadow of a Buddha twice a day at 11 am and 2 pm, May through August when the sun is just right. Come get inspired with us and see what shapes the shadows are casting! This drop-in workshop invites all ages to create together.

Children’s educational programming at Grounds For Sculpture is supported in part by Jirair S. and Elizabeth Hovnanian Family Foundation and PNC Foundation.
